The cryptocurrency market remains under pressure, with bears dictating the tone across major digital assets. Shiba Inu (SHIB), Zcash (ZEC), Monero (XMR) and Dogecoin (DOGE) are all trading in a defensive posture, and the price action suggests that sellers still hold the initiative. That said, the possibility of a recovery has not been eliminated. Markets rarely move in a straight line, and oversold conditions can produce sharp countertrend bounces when liquidity returns. For now, however, the burden of proof rests with the bulls.
Shiba Inu and Dogecoin: Meme Coins Feel the Squeeze
Shiba Inu and Dogecoin are the most sentiment-sensitive names in this group, and both are reflecting the risk-off mood. SHIB has been unable to sustain moves above its immediate resistance, with each rally fading into selling pressure. The token’s large circulating supply means that meaningful price appreciation requires sustained demand, and that demand is simply not present in the current environment. DOGE faces a similar problem. Once the beneficiary of high-profile attention and retail enthusiasm, it now trades largely on broader market beta. Without a catalyst, DOGE tends to drift lower alongside the rest of the altcoin complex.
For both meme coins, the technical picture is straightforward. Bulls need to reclaim short-term moving averages and hold them for more than a session or two. Until that happens, rallies are more likely to be sold than extended. Traders watching these names should focus on volume: a bounce on thin volume is far less credible than one accompanied by a clear surge in participation.
Zcash and Monero: Privacy Coins Hold Their Ground
Zcash and Monero occupy a different niche. As privacy-focused assets, they trade on a narrative that is less dependent on retail speculation and more tied to regulatory developments, exchange listing policies and demand for financial confidentiality. That has not made them immune to the broader downturn, but it has helped them avoid the worst of the meme-coin drawdown. ZEC and XMR are still range-bound, and neither has produced a decisive breakout. Their relative resilience is notable, but resilience is not the same as strength.
What Would Confirm a Recovery?
A genuine recovery would likely require three things. First, Bitcoin and Ethereum would need to stabilize, since the largest assets set the tone for the entire market. Second, trading volume would need to expand on up-moves rather than down-moves. Third, the group would need to break above clearly defined resistance levels and hold those gains on a closing basis. None of those conditions are firmly in place right now.
Investors should also keep the macro backdrop in mind. Crypto has become increasingly correlated with risk assets more broadly, meaning that shifts in interest rate expectations and liquidity conditions can matter as much as on-chain fundamentals. In a market where bears are dominant, patience is a strategy. The recovery thesis remains alive, but it is a thesis that requires confirmation, not assumption. Until buyers prove they are willing to step in with size, the path of least resistance for SHIB, ZEC, XMR and DOGE remains lower, punctuated by the kind of volatile bounces that are typical of a market still searching for a bottom.
