Polymarket Expands 15-Minute Bets to Gold and Silver
Polymarket has launched 15-minute gold and silver prediction markets, extending its short-duration price bets beyond cryptocurrencies through an expanded partnership with Chainlink. Chainlink announced the expansion in an Oct. 29 release, naming itself Polymarket’s official oracle for high-speed up/down markets.
The move gives traders a new way to speculate on near-term metal moves, a market traditionally dominated by futures and ETFs. The 15-minute format, which asks users to bet on whether an asset will finish higher or lower over a short window, now covers gold and silver alongside crypto pairs.
Chainlink’s Oracle Role in High-Speed Markets
Chainlink will supply the price data that settles these rapid-fire markets, a critical function given the need for accurate, tamper-resistant feeds. The oracle network already provides data for Polymarket’s crypto markets, and the expansion deepens that relationship.
High-frequency prediction markets rely on reliable price feeds to avoid disputes and manipulation. By naming Chainlink as its official oracle for these markets, Polymarket is standardizing its data layer across asset classes.
Gold ETF GLD Slips 1.22 Percent as Metals Volatility Persists
The launch comes as the SPDR Gold Shares ETF (GLD), a common proxy for gold, closed at $367.16 on Oct. 29, down 1.22% for the day, according to Massive data. The pullback in gold prices could attract traders looking to hedge or speculate on short-term moves.
Silver, which often trades with higher volatility than gold, may see even more interest in 15-minute markets. The new contracts allow users to express views on both metals without holding physical assets or futures.
Prediction Markets Push Beyond Crypto
Polymarket’s expansion into metals signals a broader ambition to become a multi-asset prediction platform. The company has previously focused on crypto and event-based markets, but short-duration commodity bets could draw traditional traders.
The 15-minute format is particularly suited to high-volatility environments, where small price swings can create profit opportunities. By offering gold and silver, Polymarket is tapping into a market that includes retail and institutional participants.
What to Watch: GLD Price and Chainlink Adoption
Traders should watch GLD’s price action around the $367 level, as a break below could spur more short-term bearish bets on Polymarket. Conversely, a rebound above that level might attract bullish speculation.
Also monitor Chainlink’s integration progress and any volume data from Polymarket’s new markets. If the 15-minute gold and silver contracts gain traction, it could encourage further expansion into other commodities.
