Gold-Copper Finds Emerge Beneath Mexico’s Silver Belt $SLV

Gold, Silver, Copper Rally Fuels Drilling In Mexico

Gold is testing record highs near $4,700, silver climbed about 20% in August, and copper is pressing toward fresh Comex records. This simultaneous rally is giving explorers fresh capital to drill, and two juniors in Mexico have hit gold-copper systems beneath historic silver workings.

The market rally has been broad. Mining.com’s Top 50 added $206 billion in the first seven trading sessions of August, with precious metals companies contributing $108 billion. Silver’s 20% August surge reached roughly $70/oz on August 21, benefiting Mexico-focused producers like Fresnillo and First Majestic.

Kootenay Silver’s Columba Hits Porphyry Gold

Kootenay Silver (KTN.V, OTCQX:KOOYF) has spent years defining its Columba project in Chihuahua as a high-grade silver deposit with 54.1 million inferred ounces at 284 g/t. But in late 2025, drilling found porphyry-style gold mineralization with a distinct geochemical signature, separate from the silver veins.

CEO James McDonald said the gold zone “may indicate a different deposit type exists,” with holes near magnetic highs that could point to the intrusive source. The company is prioritizing its La Cigarra PEA, which outlines a $763 million after-tax NPV at 5% and a 41% IRR, with 63.6 million payable ounces over 14 years.

Regency Silver’s Dios Padre Breccia Widens At Depth

Regency Silver (RSMX.V, OTCQB:RSMXF), 400 km northwest in Sonora, drilled beneath the historic Dios Padre silver mine and hit a magmatic-hydrothermal breccia carrying gold, copper, and silver. Hole REG-26-35 returned 5.06 g/t gold, 41.85 g/t silver, and 1.10% copper over 36.35 meters.

The breccia now measures roughly 230 by 150 by 50 meters, with a high-grade core about 150 by 75 by 50 meters, and remains open in all directions. CEO Bruce Bragagnolo said the 2026 program confirmed the breccia hosting mineralization at the mine is likely continuous to the deeper gold-copper rich breccia.

Stage And Scale: Developer vs. Discovery

Kootenay is a developer with a positive PEA at La Cigarra and a 54.1 Moz resource at Columba, while Regency is earlier-stage with an 11.375 Moz AgEq inferred resource. Kootenay’s market cap is around CA$138.74 million; Regency’s is CA$16.56 million.

Kootenay has insider and strategic holdings of about 15.45% and 11.04%, respectively; Regency has about 5% insider ownership. Both remain exploration/development plays with results subject to further drilling.

What To Watch Next

Watch for Kootenay’s continued drilling at Columba to assess the gold target and for Regency to resume drilling after evaluating its full 2025/2026 results. A resource update or new drill results confirming the gold-copper systems at depth would be the next catalyst for both juniors.
